How to influence a planning application

Planning is often one of the most emotive issues that impacts local communities.

All members of the public can comment on a planning application. It is generally identified by formal notices placed around the site, press notices and coverage or local knowledge that alerts you to a planning application. Your parish council will have been notified of all applications and they will discuss the application in one of their regular open meetings. The public will also have an opportunity to give their views at the parish meeting.

If you wish to support or oppose a planning application it is essential that you submit your comments in writing to the local authority planning team clearly referencing the application by its number and address.

Planning is quite a formal process but it gives an opportunity for everyone to express a view.
