Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Statement
At CPRE Herefordshire we are committed to a ‘Countryside for All’, helping everyone access the mental and physical benefits that come from spending time in our natural landscapes. However, for too many people, there are barriers to access and involvement in the countryside. Research shows huge differences in engagement with nature and the countryside, depending on an individual’s background and identity.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Statement
At CPRE Herefordshire we strive for a fair and inclusive society where everyone is able to reach their full potential, irrespective of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
Through our work in Herefordshire, we seek to bring together people with different perspectives, experiences and insights that will enrich our decision making. This informs how we respond to climate change and plan for a resilient countryside for people and wildlife. Where there are barriers to involvement in the land and nature based sectors, we want to play our part in helping to remove them by working collaboratively to find solutions.
There are many demands on our countryside. We need it to produce healthy food, support rural communities and wildlife, and offer green spaces for leisure. Increasingly, green fields are being targeted for renewable energy and housing. We need to reflect a range of views so we can ensure sustainable growth, nature’s recovery, and the protection of the landscapes we love.
Going forward
This statement is owned by the Board of Trustees and is reviewed annually to ensure it reflects our current practice and priorities.
To put this commitment into practice, CPRE Herefordshire will:
Review our recruitment and volunteering processes each year to identify and remove unnecessary barriers to entry.
Consider accessibility when planning events and site visits, including venue access, timing, and format.
Provide a clear route for anyone to raise a concern about exclusion or discrimination, via admin@cpreherefordshire.org.uk, which will be handled in confidence.
Offer relevant EDI awareness training to trustees and staff.
CPRE Herefordshire will regularly review its working practice to ensure it meets the needs of people from under-represented groups. You can read CPRE’s national diversity and inclusion statement, and the findings of a recent RACE report on CPRE as a whole.
We commit to ensuring that our charity is open to all and to actively addressing barriers to participation.
If you would like to discuss this further, please email admin@cpreherefordshire.org.uk to engage with us.
