East Herefordshire residents have until 25 May 2026 to share their views on the Wilder Leadon Vision and Strategic Action Plan — a new strategy for protecting and improving the River Leadon catchment for wildlife and communities. CPRE Herefordshire is urging local people to complete the public consultation before it closes.

What Is the Wilder Leadon Consultation?

The Wilder Leadon programme is one of five Flagship Programmes developed by the Severn Vale Catchment Partnership, a collaboration of conservation organisations, local authorities, and community groups working to restore rivers and wetlands across the region.

Members of the partnership have co-written a Vision and Strategic Action Plan focused on the Leadon catchment, which flows through the eastern edge of Herefordshire. The plan sets out priorities for water quality, wildlife habitat, and community engagement, and they want your input before it’s finalised.

The consultation runs from 13 April to 25 May 2026.

Why Does It Matter?

The River Leadon and its surrounding landscape support a rich variety of wildlife and provide vital green space for local communities. The Catchment Based Approach (CaBA) is the framework behind this initiative and brings together over 100 partnerships across England to improve the water environment at a local level.

CPRE Herefordshire has long championed the health of the county’s rivers and countryside. Our River Wye citizen science project has shown what local communities can achieve when they get involved, and the Wilder Leadon consultation is another opportunity to make your voice count.

Questions to consider

  • How do you use the water environment in the Leadon catchment?
  • Do you feel the plan covers the key environmental priorities?
  • Is there anything missing?

Deadline: 25 May 2026 — Don’t Miss Your Chance

This consultation is a rare opportunity for East Herefordshire residents to directly influence how one of the county’s lesser-known rivers is managed and protected for future generations. CPRE Herefordshire encourages all members and supporters in the area to take part.
