Our Precious Lugg Meadows Nature Reserve is Under Threat

Are you aware that land between Hereford and Lugwardine is under threat from a major housing development?

Our precious Lugg Meadows Nature Reserve is under threat from a planning application for over 250 houses which borders Herefordshire Wildlife Trust’s iconic Lugg Meadows Nature Reserve a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and leads to the River Lugg also a SSSI and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). 

Around 1500 objections and concerns have been raised about the planning application. These have come from individuals, community members and from national and local bodies including –

Historic England, Local Highway Authority, Herefordshire Council Ecology, The Bartestree with Lugwardine Parish Council, RSPB, Hereford City Council, Active Travel England, Hereford Civic Society, Aylestone Lugg Meadows Association, Save the Wye, The Campaign for the Protection of Rural England, Natural England, Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, Plantlife, Hampton Bishop Parish Council, Highways Area Engineer, Herefordshire Council Natural Environment Team, Herefordshire Council Land Drainage (Balfour Beatty), Herefordshire Council Ecology, Herefordshire Council Landscapes.

All those raising concerns cannot be wrong!

Today we urge Herefordshire Council to refuse planning permission for this environmentally destructive application.

It is time to protect these nationally significant, historic meadows and their wildlife, birds, plants and rivers for future generations.

Please lobby your MP, Local Councillors and add your name to those that want Lugg Meadows preserved for the enjoyment of all without pressure from development.  You can read our objection letter here.
