‘Tarmac and be damned? – ambitious road building programmes cannot continue

Last week Crispin Truman OBE, the chief executive of national CPRE, wrote to The Times commenting on the Government’s £90 billion pound road re-vamp and calling to scrap their road-building plans and divert the money into sustainable public transport.

He writes that the lockdown rules have effected a revolution on our streets, with more people choosing active travel options like walking and cycling where possible, record low air pollution levels and blissfully liveable neighbourhoods.
