New group River Action shares our concerns for the River Wye

15th February 2021

A new national group has formed called River Action and its first campaign starts by highlighting the sorry state of our River Wye.

River Action is challenging local agri-businesses to demonstrate that they have plans to mitigate the devastating run-offs of animal manure from free-range poultry units.

The Guardian reported last week that there have been no prosecutions or fines issued to farms by the Environment Agency despite 243 violations of legislation designed to curb the agricultural pollution of waterways in England.

Now River Action pledges to pressurise these often large and very profitable businesses to demonstrate their commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices.
