2026 is a very special one for the national CPRE network. This year CPRE will celebrate its centenary – 100 years of standing up for the countryside we all love.

As we head into this milestone year, our focus here in Herefordshire remains firmly on practical action and positive progress. From protecting our rivers and restoring hedgerows, to championing darker skies and standing up for thoughtful, well-planned development, our work continues to reflect what matters most to people across the county.

Our Hedgerow Heroes project is in full swing until April. If you’d like to join us out in the field planting hedgerows, or take part in our final hedgelaying course of the season, you’re very welcome to get involved. Every pair of hands makes a real difference!

Help us plant new hedgerows

As CPRE enters its 100th year, CPRE is taking time to reflect on a century of campaigning while also looking ahead with ambition. The centenary is about celebrating progress, learning from the past and inspiring a new generation to care for, enjoy and shape the places they love.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show

One of the highlights of the centenary year will be CPRE’s show garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The garden has been designed by award-winning designer Sarah Eberle and sponsored by grant-giving charity Project Giving Back. It will bring the beauty and value of the countryside right into the heart of London. You can find out more about the garden here.

Here in Herefordshire, we’re also planning our own event to mark CPRE’s centenary year, more details will be shared soon. And while the national charity turns 100, the Herefordshire branch is celebrating its 98th year… not quite a century yet, but still something we’re very proud of!

You can explore CPRE’s centenary plans and get involved here.

From rivers and hedgerows to dark skies and planning, our work in Herefordshire is part of this wider story. Together with our members, volunteers and supporters, we’re proud to be making positive progress for the countryside, now and for generations to come.

Thank you for your support which enables us to do what we do!
