December’s election saw every major political party promise mass tree-planting. The importance of trees and woods in tackling both the climate and nature crises is finally at the top of the political agenda. Now the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Ancient Woodland and Veteran Trees is looking for new members in parliament, and the Woodland Trust is running a campaign to ask all MPs to attend the AGM on January 21st in recognition of the importance of this issue.
The APPG's remit will be expanded to include all UK native woods and trees, to better protect these fragile habitats from new threats including pests, diseases and climate change. They will also debate how best to target the major expansion of tree cover that is needed in the UK.
You can help by visiting the Woodland Trust site (link here) and filling in a simple form to ask your MP to attend the APPG and protect a UK rich in woods and trees.
