The focus of World Soil Day is "Keep soil alive, Protect soil biodiversity". The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management - by:
- fighting soil biodiversity loss
- increasing soil awareness
- encouraging governments, organizations, communities and individuals around the world to commit to proactively improving soil health.
So what can we do? If you have any kind of garden, be conscious of replacing nutrients and building structure of the soil by adding compost from animal or plant sources. If not, consider buying locally grown meat, eggs and vegetables from producers who demonstrate their care for the soil. And spread the word!
