In case you missed it, on Sunday 16 August CPRE featured on Countryfile on the need for more affordable rural housing, as estate agents report a spike in demand for sales and rentals due to the shift to remote working. Sarah McMonagle, CPRE’s Head of External Affairs, was interviewed by Tom Heap and made the case for more well-designed and genuinely affordable housing in the countryside.
As well as CPRE, Countryfile featured Will Lock, chairman of Exmoor Young Voices, on the struggle young people have buying in the area they grew up in. In Will’s case, his family has lived in the area for six generations. You can watch the episode on BBC iPlayer here which starts at 11 minutes 45 seconds. If you have any questions or know of similar stories to Will’s, please contact campaigns and policy media lead Jonathan Jones on firstname.lastname@example.org.
The programme came just days after CPRE released their guide on how to get affordable rural housing built, following on from their March 2018 publication in collaboration with the housing charity Shelter, Viable Villages.
