Interactive Painting “Vacuum Packed for Your Convenience...”

Visitors participating with the interactive painting Exhibition visitors, both young and more mature, had great fun with painter Barbara Bromhead-Wragg’s interactive painting. Using a technique that Barbara had invented specially for the CPRE exhibition, the painting enabled visitors to push oil paint around the “canvas” to change the shape and colour of the image.

post opening

The image began with mainly green and white and a small area of ochre. Barbara invited visitors to interact with and, by doing so, decide the development of this piece of work.

Visitors were to decide for themselves whether the white of the polytunnels would overtake the green of the landscape or vice-versa.

The image above shows the interactive painting, at the end of the opening day of the exhibition, when over 100 people had participated in developing the work. The interactive painting, at the close of the exhibition

The picture on the right shows the interactive painting at the close of the exhibition. We estimate that at least 150 people dared to take up Barbara's invitation (with many more happy to watch). Barbara was very pleased with the response from visitors, saying, "It was gratifying to see how much fun people had with this piece."
