A visitor contributing to 'Build a Poem'

As well as the interactive painting, CPRE was pleased to have the work, 'Build a Poem' - an interactive poem, by Amanda Attfield.

Amanda painstakingly cut her poem, 'Polytunnel Protocol', into its constituent parts and then invited vistors to create a new piece of poetry from these words and phrases. This invitation was taken up by many visitors, whether adding one word or creating their own poem.

The image, above right, shows a visitor adding their contribution to this work. The image below shows the first of the 'new''Build a Poem'. result one poems, created by the public

The base poem for this piece is Polytunnel Protocol.

In 2007 Amanda was commissioned by CPRE Herefordshire to write a poem 'in requiem' for the lost landscape at Dinedor, which is greenbelt land lost to the construction of the Rotherwas Relief Road. This poem is titled 'The Long Goodbye'.

Poem 1
People who care deeply enough
Yes, everywhere
they must go in groups
the local authorities to startle
to enrage reaction
generate a code of practice

Poem 2
Detached hairnets of the library
they must view a law indeterminate
as they handled a whole village
at least fifty yards landscape
be frightening the young
and creating arguments
of dwelling must be between country field
anywhere
this is just protocol
must be.

Poem 3
White plastic potato sized fruit
arouse heated debate
by
quite short haired newly settled locals
in executive homes
and
Morrison’s or Tesco’s carrier bags
Can clipped, thick, accents
produce always long and thin an eyesore

Poem 4
Time to view
the old orchard
between executive homes
