"Herefordshire Landscapes - Risk or Harmony?"

A contemporary art exhibition sponsored by CPRE from 11th – 17th November 2006

CPRE commissioned six artists in different media to give their interpretations of landscape in Herefordshire at risk of its beauty or tranquillity being eroded – from light pollution, road-building, polytunnels, windfarms, new housing and other threats. We did not ask the artists' views in advance. We accepted that some might see beauty and tranquillity where CPRE perceives threat.  We hoped that they would offer new and different perspectives on issues with which CPRE grapples. CPRE's aim was to provide a thought provoking experience that will further the crucial debate on how Herefordshire’s landscape is to both change and be protected over the coming decades.

The resulting artistic visions were launched at an Event at 11.30am on Saturday 11 November 2006 and were on display daily until 17 November along with written statements from the artists about their work and how they arrived at their interpretations.

The launch included an intriguing, participatory Mail Art Event undertaken by Mike Clements, the first public reading of poems CPRE had commissioned from Amanda Attfield and an extraordinary interactive painting by Barbara Bromhead-Wragg.

The six artists were Lin Charlston (book artist), Mike Clements (mail artist),Barbara Bromhead-Wragg (painter), Jason Hodges (photographer), Amanda Attfield (poet), Inge Wright (Printmaker).
